Noosa's North Shore is a popular place for those seeking to retreat from the everyday. Located between Noosa River and the Pacific Ocean, the sandy peninsula is a popular place for outdoor activities and adventures and a gateway to natural landmarks.
Visitors cross the river to camp, fish, to ride a horse or join a camel trek in the Great Sandy National Park. Four-wheel drive vehicles can continue along the 50-kilometre stretch of beach to Double Island Point and the Teewah Coloured Sands.
Visitors also come to the North Shore to experience Lake Cootharaba, the Everglades and the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island. A World Heritage-listed area, Fraser Island is a complex ecosystem of sand dunes, lakes and lagoons, soils and forests. Jagged coloured sand cliffs, freshwater lakes, tall forests, wildflowers, rainforests and clear creeks. It is accessible via 4WD up the beach from Noosa North Shore and can be explored on an organised day or overnight tour. Alternatively you can hire or take your own 4WD to experience Noosa North Shore and Fraser Island at your own pace.
Getting there
Noosa’s North Shore is accessed by boat or the motor vehicle ferry that leaves regularly from the end of Moorindil Street, Tewantin. Ferries generally run every 5 minutes, however please note that during holiday periods you can expect long queues.
