The Noosa Longweekend is an annual 10-day festival of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, food, film, literature and thought-provoking, barrier-breaking forums that has become recognised as one of Australia’s foremost regional cultural events.
The Noosa Longweekend offers a unique cultural experience that engages audiences with a quality artistic program, world-class cuisine, and the stunning natural environment unique to Noosa. Established in 2002 by prominent Australian playwright David Williamson, his wife Kristin and former Berlin Philharmonic violinist Brett Dean, the festival continues to attract some of Australia’s and the world’s best artists, performers, writers, film-makers, musicians, environmentalists and commentators.
Throughout its eight-year history, the festival has hosted a star-studded guest list that includes: authors Clive James, Tariq Ali, Peter Carey, Thomas Keneally, Bryce Courtenay, Nick Earls and Tim Winton; playwright David Williamson; journalist John Pilger; actors Bryan Brown, Drew Forsythe, John Bell and Jean Kittson; artists Michael Leunig and Mirka Mora; film directors Bruce Beresford and Rolf De Heer; the famed Goldner String Quartet, Academy Award winning cinematographer Russell Boyd; singers Marina Prior, Caroline O’Connor and Kate Miller-Heidke; musicians Piers Lane, Brett Dean, Jane Rutter and Karen Schaupp; environmentalist Tim Flannery; and ABC Television presenters Kerry O’Brien, Maxine McKew and Peter Thompson.
