the real people of noosa
1 Why Noosa? What brought you here?
I was lucky enough to be born here. My family have been in the Noosa Hinterland for over 80 years. I travelled around the globe for a few years then came back to Kin Kin as I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
2 What did you do in a former life, before coming to Noosa?
Besides growing small crops with my family through my teens, I bought and ran the local General Store, Post Office and Service Station in Kin Kin for 7 years. And I still operate the Post Office. I am also currently co-ordinating the 30th Anniversary for Pomona King of the Mountain Challenge 2009.
3 What makes you stay in Noosa? Describe your relationship with the place?
There is not place in the world like we have here. I live in the Hinterland and enjoy the country pace and the people. There are so many things to do and see.
4 What do you do?
I’m currently co-ordinating the 30th Anniversary for the Pomona King of the Mountain Challenge to be held Sunday 26th July 2009 at the Stan Topper Park in Pomona. This is a project of the Cooroy – Pomona Lions Club and all funds raised from the event go back into the local community. See www.kingofthemountain.com for info on the event.
5 What makes Noosa ‘tick’ and what are its unique characteristics?
The arts and environment and the way they are ingrained into Noosa, which is great.
6 How would you describe Noosa to someone with no knowledge of it?
It’s a great place to unwind, relax and enjoy. It is so beautiful from the beach to bush.
7 What’s your favourite haunt/spot/view/thing to do around Noosa?
My two favourite views are; the Noosa which is easy to get to, and Kin Kin look-out. If you get the chance take a walk up Mt Cooroora in Pomona, it’s quite steep and takes about 1 hour but the view over the sunny coast is amazing, not to mention the sun rise. Oh and the top bar at the Reef Hotel is not too bad either.
8 Your most unusual Noosa experience…
I’ve had quite a few and some I can’t mention here!
9 Where was your last holiday?
I went to Townsville for a week in July to get away from our winter, which was a great break.
10 Name someone who has inspired you and why?
The people that volunteer in community groups inspire me; they all give so much from the heart and do not expect anything in return.
