the real people of noosa
1 Why Noosa? What brought you here?
My mates from Torquay Surf Club, who were the early surf club pioneers, influenced me to move. I came to check Noosa out and I stayed.
2 What did you do in a former life, before coming to Noosa?
I taught personal training, boxing and karate at a high school in Geelong.
3 What makes you stay in Noosa? Describe your relationship with the place?
I love the outdoors, the locals and meeting holiday makers. Love, love, love…that would be good lyrics for a song!
4 What do you do?
I run a fitness centre called Frank’s Gym with my son and daughter. They would sack me if I didn’t own it!
5 What makes Noosa ‘tick’ and what are its unique characteristics?
Noosa has very little class distinction. Everyone is equal in a pair of togs… well at least I think so.
6 How would you describe Noosa to someone with no knowledge of it?
A unique blend of the best - lovely coastal areas, rivers and hinterland scenery mixed with great restaurants and people.
7 What’s your favourite haunt/spot/view/thing to do around Noosa?
There are so many things I love to do here. But if I had to pick something in particular, it would be running the inland tracks of the National Park, followed by a surf at Alexandra Bay.
8 Your most unusual Noosa experience…
I used to take personal training classes at Geelong Goal. One inmate I befriended was an axe murderer. I was at the Reef Hotel (having a squash) one time…yeah… when I got a tap on the shoulder. It was him – out of goal and happily married.
9 Where was your last holiday?
Noosa, where else?
10 Name someone who has inspired you and why?
I have a big list, but I will keep it simple- Bobby Wilson (who’s not simple!!). He was a heavy weight boxing champion with a tough exterior and heart of gold. He is very involved and trains locals.
