The history of the Noosa area’s original inhabitants, the Gubbi Gubbi people, the growth of European settlements, and local stories are recorded and on show in museums and public buildings throughout the region.
Noosa Museum in Pomona is housed in a building that was constructed in 1911 as the Noosa Shire Council Chambers. The shire administrative centre moved to Tewantin and the museum opened in 1985. Visitors can see Aboriginal artefacts, items from European settlements and the timber and dairy industries, including vintage machinery and tools. Look through the archives and purchase copies of historic photographs and discover the King of the Mountain race history.
Eumundi Museum reveals the district’s natural and cultural heritage in its displays of stone and wooden artifacts, family histories, maps and thousands of photographs that depict the development of the region.
Eumundi’s historic Masonic Lodge (1917) is home to Queensland’s first surf museum, where visitors can see the largest and most comprehensive range of vintage surf and street memorabilia in the Southern Hemisphere. From January 2008 the museum will open its doors on Wednesdays and Saturdays to coincide with Eumundi Markets.
