We saw two very different but equally memorable shows for the final weekend of the Noosa Longweekend festival.
On Saturday, we took the kids to a free family show, Bubbles the Elephant, which was an absolute hoot. It was really good quality kids' entertainment (especially for a free event) and I think the adults enjoyed it just as much.
Last night we had a grown ups' night out and went to see Australian singer Paul Capsis, who put on an incredible show of jazz, pop, gospel and soul. He is certainly a unique performer - the best description I can come up with is "out there" - and what a voice! His show was described in the program as an "experience" and it really was.
I had a rare chance to spend a day shopping (sans children!) the other day and had a wonderfully relaxing time wandering around the shops. I started in Noosa Junction, which has some really groovy little boutique shops these days, then headed down to Hastings Street for a quick lunch and more shopping.
Along with the great range of shops in Hastings Street, I never get sick of the atmosphere there. I love watching visitors' fascination with the brush turkeys that roam the streets (the locals barely notice them) and I find being around people who are on holidays is good for the soul. A bit of retail therapy never hurts, either!
I have an accommodation tip for you: you can rent spectacular Noosa houses at really reasonable rates during the 'winter' months. (I qualify winter as people tend to scoff if you put winter in the same sentence as Noosa.)
Some friends rented a huge house on Noosa Sound last June and got it for a fraction of the price of what you would pay in summer. It was a gorgeous place, right on the water, and just a few minutes' walk from Hastings Street.
Winter is a great time to be here, with temperatures typically in the low 20s - and water temperatures about the same. Have a look at holiday houses and other Noosa accommodation options by clicking here.
