Australian multi-award winning arthouse film director, Rolf de Heer will attend the Noosa International Film Festival for a special Q&A event, Inside Cinema, at The J on Thursday 26 October.

The festival, from 26-29 October 2017 will screen about 100 new release Australian and international feature length films and high quality short films, and will stage inspirational workshops and talks with leading industry experts.

De Heer will join his sound designer colleague, James Currie for a double header Q&A, hosted by In Noosa Magazine’s John Caruso.

Inside Cinema will go behind the scenes on the making of Australian films including Ten Canoes, Charlie’s Country and cult classic Bad Boy Bubby.

Ten Canoes, which Currie and de Heer collaborated on, won over 14 awards, including Un Certain Regard’s Special Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival.

Currie has worked with other leading directors including Greg McLean, best known for Wolf Creek and Jungle which is the festival's opening night feature film.

The Inside Cinema special event will explore how sound design complements imagery in these iconic films depicting Australian history and culture.

Inside Cinema takes place at The J Noosa on Thursday 26 October at 8pm following the NIFF Short Film Awards at 6pm. Maribelle’s Street Food Cart will be available from 5pm.

Making a special appearance at the Awards is four-time Academy Award-nominee, John Seale who returns as the festival’s Founding Patron and will present the filmmaker awards.

The J also hosts the Festival's Short Film Session on Saturday 28 October from 10am-5.30pm.

Official selection shorts were selected from 31 countries and include drama, romance, animation, documentary and will have you laughing, crying and thinking.

On Saturday night from 8pm, a story of the birth of the Australian surfing boom is told in the Men Of Wood & Foam documentary told by Noosa’s very own writer and producer, Phil Jarratt.

Bringing the sounds of the pipeline to life are local musicians Band Of Frequencies who will perform parts of the original soundtrack live.
