Each year between June and October, the waters off the Sunshine Coast become a highway for one of nature's most spectacular migrations.
Thousands of humpback whales travel north to the warmer waters of Queensland to breed and give birth before making the long journey south again with their calves.
For locals and visitors alike, whale season is one of the most exciting times of the year. While many people head out on dedicated whale watching vessels, some are surprised to learn that Noosa's Great Beach Drive also offers excellent opportunities to spot these magnificent animals from land.
Along the coastline between Noosa North Shore, Teewah Beach, Double Island Point and Rainbow Beach, elevated headlands and long stretches of open coastline provide incredible vantage points to watch whales as they migrate past.
At Sunny Jeeps, whale sightings have become a regular highlight of our beach adventures during the season. Some days guests are fortunate enough to witness breaches, tail slaps and playful behaviour close to shore. On other days, we may spot the tell-tale blow of a whale on the horizon or watch mothers and calves travelling together along the coastline.

Guests joining a Sunny Jeeps beach tour travel along the spectacular Great Beach Drive in a private open-air Jeep Wrangler, exploring some of the most beautiful and remote coastal locations in the region. Depending on the tour selected, the day may include Teewah Beach, Double Island Point, the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach, Carlo Sand Blow, hidden freshwater swimming spots and breathtaking ocean lookouts.
Along the way there are often opportunities to spot dolphins surfing in the waves, sea turtles, rays, birdlife and migrating whales from the shoreline.
