Coming this September to Noosa Arts Theatre is a fun musical “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown”. Everyone knows the beloved Peanuts comic strip and this production brings all the characters to life on the stage.
The musical was created by Clark Gesner, who initially wrote songs inspired by the comic strip just for fun. He sent recordings to friends before seeking permission to use the characters. It wasn’t based on a single comic strip. Instead, the show is a collection of short scenes and songs inspired by hundreds of Peanuts comics by Charles M. Schulz.
The show premiered Off-Broadway way back in 1967 and despite its small scale and simple staging it became a huge hit, running for over 1500 performances - an impressive achievement for an Off-Broadway show. Charles Schulz was famously protective of his characters, but he liked Gesner’s songs and gave his blessing to adapt Peanuts into a musical.
A revival show in 1999 on Broadway added some of the show’s biggest songs such as “My New Philosophy” and “Beethoven Day” written by Andrew Lippa. These songs have become very popular audition songs for young performers.
The show was first performed in Australia 10 years ago at the Hayes Theatre in Sydney. Noosa Arts Theatre are thrilled to present this production starting on 11 September and running until 27 September. It’s such a fun show full of vibrancy and will appeal to all ages of audience.
