The Noosa Festival of Surfing

Taking place over nine days at Noosa's First Point (a.k.a the eastern end of Noosa Main Beach) the 2022 Noosa Festival of Surfing celebrates the backbone of our culture - SURFING - from Saturday, 5 March – Sunday, 13 March. Packed full of events, waves, boards and beaches, it's time to get stoked and prepare for all the goodness of this year's festival swell.

To get your head around all that's on over this nine-day surf affair, we've got the rundown on everything from Noosa Festival of Surfing sessions to the SolBar Beach Bar, and the variety of cultural events including an International Women's Day Event!

The Surf Schedule!

The Noosa Festival of Surfing Competition continues daily from 7am - 4.30pm (Subject to change) and is completely FREE!

So what's on?

  • Sat 5th March: Juniors, Teams Challenge and Family Challenge (Heats)
  • Sun 6th March: Juniors, Teams Challenge and Family Challenge (Finals) + some Senior Divisions
  • Mon 7th March: ALL Senior Divisions including SUP’s (Heats)
  • Tue 8th March: ALL Senior Divisions and Women’s Longboard Open (Heats)
  • Wed 9th March: Longboard Open and Women Logger Pro (Heats)
  • Thu 10th March: Men Logger Pro (R1 & R2 Heats) and Women Logger Pro (R3 Heats)
  • Fri 11th March: Twin Fin Pro & Masters & Old Mal (Heats)
  • Sat 12th March: SUP Flat Water Race, Logger Pro, Longboard Open, Twin Fin & Old Mal (Semi-Finals)
  • Sun 13th March: ALL remaining division Finals
  • Sun 13th March: Presentations at the Beach Bar

Daily Festival Event

The Beach Club & Bar on Noosa Main Beach will be the hub of the Festival vibe with live music and DJ tunes daily from 12pm - 8pm.

Friday 4

  • SurfAid Opening Night Fundraiser - A special event hosted by surf journalist and current Editor at Surfline, Nick Carrol! Joining Nick is 7x World Champion, Layne Beachly, Rip Curls first ever female CEO, Brooke Farris, and surfer, model and conversationist Pacha Light. SurfAid dedicates a lot of its aid work to supporting women and children in remote parts of the world.

Saturday 5

  • A crowd favourite and the world’s biggest Surfing Dog Championships, it's the Vetshop Dog Surfing Championships!!! It's back from 2:30pm - 3:30pm and we can't wait for these little pooches to hit the surf! 🐶🏄
  • Open Ceremony & Paddle Out - The Opening Ceremony will begin at 4:15pm in Laguna Bay, off Main Beach. There will be a Welcome to Country, brief speeches and the traditional paddle-out to kick-off the Festival. Stick around for live music from 2018 WSL Longboard Champion Steven Sawyer.

Sunday 6

  • Active Escapes Training Session - Get a morning workout from 6am - 7am with Active Escapes as they bring their star trainers to Main Beach!
  • Clean Up Australia Day - Plastic Free Noosa welcomes the community to come along to an afternoon beach clean at Noosa Main Beach from 4pm - 5pm.
  • Melanoma March - Unfortunately, Melanoma affects over 1,300 families in Australia every year! Join Noosa Festival of Surfing for the Sunshine Coast Melanoma March to raise funds and awareness for sun safety.

Tuesday 8

  • Sirromet Wines International Womens Day - Celebrate incredible women at the Beach Bar from 2pm- 6pm and enjoy Sirromet's amazing range of wine as well as the Ohana Group's amazing cheeseboards. Tracy Naughton's She to Sea artshow will also be on display at the Beach Bar.

  • The Morning of Earth 50th Anniversary - The epic surf film Morning of the Earth has been lovingly restored and remastered in stunning 4k! The film includes never before seen footage from Alby's 'lost reels'. 6pm - 8pm.
  • Mark Mathews - Life Beyond Fear - Listen and be inspired by a big wave charging, motivational speaking legend. Enjoy an engaging and empowering presentation packed with results driven strategies. 8pm.

Saturday 12

  • Active Escapes Beach Yoga - Join the Active Escapes trainers for their Beach Yoga sessions led by expert instructors. The session runs from 6am - 7am.
  • Performance Breathing with Rich Burrows - Performance Breathing Australia Director Rich Burrows will be offering a one time only Breath and Icebath experience on Noosa Main Beach. Head down from 7am - 9am.
  • Noosa SUP Challenge - The Noosa SUP Challenge is an opportunity for paddlers to compete against each other in either short course (5-6kms) or long course (12-15kms) around the pristine waters of Noosa Heads. This event starts from 3pm.
  • Deus Surf Swap & Film Night - Surfers from all over are welcome to bring along their retro, old school boards from yesteryear and are encouraged to swap and go or purchase any that are available for sale on the day. Following this is the Deus' film night. 5pm - 9pm.
  • The Finz Rock n Roll Night - Hailing from Woollongong, these 6 loveable larrikins and their love for music and camaraderie are set to provide a real highlight of this years Noosa Festival of Surfing. From 8pm.
