Sustainable events

Noosa is fortunate to host many wonderful events across the Shire with events taking place from Noosa Main Beach to the top of Mount Cooroora and everywhere in between. Since 2007, the Noosa Shire has held UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status. It recognises the ongoing efforts of the Noosa community to manage the region’s land, waters and wildlife sustainably, in balance with its population and visitors from across the globe.

Tourism Noosa will only sponsor events that demonstrate progress and commitment in the areas of community, energy, water, and waste management.

The Tourism Noosa Sustainable Event Criteria Checklist along with the 50 Shades of Green Guide are designed to assist event organisers to achieve their sustainability goals and balance the economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits of hosting events in Noosa.

Sustainable Event Criteria Audit

Tourism Noosa's Sustainable Event Criteria aims to lift event sustainability standards and insist on minimum standards for certain criteria. The audit is robust and has a complete rating system that will give you a percentage figure to determine your event's sustainability rating across four areas - Community and Commitment, Energy, Water and Waste. Interpret your result and identify areas to improve.

WASTE WARRIOR

If you are attending one of our major local events, you'll likely see one of the friendly Waste Warrior volunteers helping patrons find the right bin for their waste. Through the help of Waste Warriors and the introduction of waste stations at events, major Noosa events have successfully diverted large amounts of rubbish from landfill with more items being recycled and composted!
